What are ICC Profiles and why are they important? #
- An ICC profile is a file that describes how a device (scanner, monitor or printer) renders color. In printing, an ICC profile describes how a particular printer model and specific paper combination reproduce color.
- The goal of using the correct ICC profile is to give you the most accurate results that the paper and printer combination is capable of producing.
Finding The Correct ICC Profile #
The Photo Program currently uses Canon Pro 1000s which have all the Canon paper icc profiles already installed.
If you are using a paper from another manufacturer you will need to download it from their site. Below is a list of links to a few of the major paper manufacturers.
Installing the Profile #
Once the profile is downloaded, open the folder containing the .icc profiles. Select and Copy (Command-c) all the files that have .icc at the end of the file name.
In the Finder hold down the Option key and select Go from the finder menu bar.
Select Library
Select ColorSync –> Profiles
Paste the new .icc profiles into the Profiles folder by pressing Command-v
The profiles are now installed and ready to use
